May 26, 2022 Update - 2022 Roadtrip is Under Way

I left Florida on Wed May 25 and drove 1000 miles to K5QE's place in EM31, Texas.

I will be in Texas until June 13th.  Current plan is as follows:
  • Friday June 3rd - Activate EM24 in Southern Oklahoma - MR ~1430
    • 2M EME at Moonrise 144.132 JT65B should have Internet
    • 23cm EME also at Moonrise 1296.080 Q65-60C
    • After 2M callers are complete will move to 222 EME 122.080 Q65-60C
  • Saturday June 4th - Activate EM34 in Southern Arkansas - MR ~1530
    • 2M EME at Moonrise 144.132 JT65B should have Internet
    • 23cm EME also at Moonrise 1296.080 Q65-60C
    • After 2M callers are complete will move to 222 EME 122.080 Q65-60C
  • Sunday June 5th - Activate EM33 in Southern Arkansas - MR ~1630
    • 2M EME at Moonrise 144.132 JT65B may have Internet
I will provide an update next week with more detail on planned operating locations and times.

If anyone needs OK or AR for 70cm WAS please send me an email.

On June 13th I plan to head to West Texas, Eastern New Mexico.  Then up to the four-corners area DM56/57 to activate Utah and Arizona.  I plan to be in the Western U.S. until July 20 when I arrive in Wisconsin.  From July 20 - October I plan to operate in all states East of the Mississippi River, like last year.

I will also do some 6M, 2M and 222 MS and 6M Es on the trip.

This year the stations are as follows:
  • 6M 3el 6M3 700W
  • 2M 2x10HV 700w
  • 222 2x16HV KW
  • 70cm 2x25 HV 600W
  • 23cm 2.4M dish 400W at the feed
I plan to try to operate two bands when possible.  Typically I will always have 23cm running.
The 2M, 222 and 70cm stations share a single antenna tripod so I can only run one of those stations at a time.  I can switch antennas on the tripod in about 15 minutes.

I will be able to run two MS stations, 6M, 2M and 222 at the same time.

While operating two stations I plan to use chat as little as possible.  If I have a problem completing with a caller I may try to coordinate using chat.

For 6M and 2M I will use PJClient.  For 222, 70cm and 23cm I will use the HB9Q logger.

Overall plan for the Summer is to travel about 10,000 miles between now and October 15th.

When I started planning this trip I estimated $3000 for diesel fuel.  The estimate is now $8000 and I think we may even see $10 per gallon prices by September.

If anyone would like to contribute toward the fuel cost you can use my Paypal account: petervanh143@gmail.com.
