KA6U Update - December 26, 2022 -  1200UTC

222 EME Activations from  MD, PA , DE on December 27
222 EME Activations from NC, SC on December 28

My excursion to MD, PA and DE is confirmed for tomorrow, Tuesday.
Weather will be clear, about 34 degrees and no wind.

I have moved DE location to FM29CQ in College Park, DE just across the border from the MD/PA sites.  Depending on how long it takes to complete MD and PA activations on 222 I may not be able to activate in DE.  The moon window is short because of the southern declination.  The moon should be visible from 1900UTC - 2345UTC, about 5 hours.  Subtracting 90 minutes for the two station moves this results in about 3 1/2 hours total time on the Moon.

Activation Plan

I am planning to activate 222 EME from three states on Tuesday, December 27.
I will go to a location near the MD/PA border, set up in MD in FM29CR then move to FM29BR in PA.  I will then drive  to FM29CQ in DE.

Planned Dec 27 operation: 222.080 2nd Q65-60B 1500hz no doppler
  • MD - FM29CR11 - 1900-2030UTC -> Move to PA
  • PA - FM29BR -  2100 - 2200UTC -> Move to DE
  • DE - FM29CQ - 2230  - 0000UTC (if time permits)
Planned Dec 28 operation: 222.080 2nd Q65-60B 1500hz no doppler
  • NC - FM04IM - On NC side of the border - 2000UTC - 2100UTC
  • SC - FM04IM - On SC side of the border - 2130UTC - 2230UTC
The location in NC/SC is a gravel lot just north of the "South of the Border" tourist trap on the NC/SC border.  I will be able to drag my antenna array and move my car across the border in a few minutes.

When I call CQ if you hear me please respond with TX-2.  This will save time.

This will be the first time I have tried this type of operation.
If conditions are good I should be able to work all callers at each stop.
If conditions are bad we may stop and try another day.
If all goes well this will be a 10 hour door-to-door trip from Alexandria, VA.

Weather permitting I could try again on Dec 28 if required.
