KA6U Update - March 14, 2023 -  1300UTC

Western US roving trip April 2023

I am planning the next trip in April to visit most of the Western US.

The plan below is tentative and will depend on the weather.
The dates shown are very optimistic, assuming the weather cooperates every day.
It is very likely that the trip will take several days longer.
Hopefully we can complete while we still have a good Moon window to Europe.

Most of the locations are on the borders of states where I can actually move the station across the border in a few minutes.  As a result, I am planning to operate from two states on the same moon pass when possible.

Basic operating plan will be 23cm and 70cm at the same time starting each operation followed by 23cm and 222 Mhz.

I will not have Internet access from some of the remote places I am visiting (operating locations on borders).

When you hear me please call with TX2 to save time.  Calling with TX2 lets me know that you have copied me.  If you call with TX1, I assume you do not hear me and I may not answer you if I have other callers who are calling on TX2.  Please do not call on 1500hz CFOM.  Please space out between 800hz and 2000hz DF.  If several stations call on 1500hz I may not be able to decode.

Proposed plan - all times and days are UTC:
  • April 24 - EM10KS - NE and KS - 1500-2200UTC
  • April 25 - EN15QW - SD and ND - 1500 - 2200UTC
  • April 26 - EN15QW - MN 1600-1900UTC
  • April 27 - DN74TX - MT and WY 1730 - 2300UTC
  • April 29 - DN16MJ - ID and WA 2030 - 0200UTC (next day)
  • April 30 - DN01QX - OR and NV 2100 - 0400UTC (next day)
  • May 2 - DM57LA - UT and AZ - 2330 - 0400UTC (next day)
  • May 4 - DM57LA - CO and NM 0030 - 0400UTC (next day)
It there is bad weather I may delay or cancel some of the stops.
There is a high probability that on some days it will be too windy to deploy the 23cm dish.
I can operate 70cm and 222 in most weather including winds up to 30mph.
I am taking my winter survival equipment :-)
